Shocks Fall to TCU, 57-48

Box Score

FORT WORTH, Texas.- Despite a team-high 14 points from junior A.J. Hawkins, the Wichita State men's basketball team fell to 3-5 on the season with a 57-48 road loss as the Shockers could not overcome Texas Christian's hot outside shooting.

Zvonko Buljan scored a game-high 17 points and collected 10 rebounds as the Horned Frogs won their sixth straight game. Buljan hit 7-of-9 field goals, including all three of his 3-pointers, for the Horned Frogs (7-3). Edvinas Ruzgas added 16 points, hitting all of his shots from the field and the free-throw line. Kevin Langford added 11 points for TCU.

TCU got off to a quick start with help from its three-point shooting as the teams first three baskets were all from behind the arc. After falling behind by eight early, freshman Garrett Stutz scored back-to-back buckets and a fastbreak layup by Reggie Chamberlain brought the Shockers within two, 14-12, midway through the first half. WSU would get no closer as the Horned Frogs answered with a 10-0 run over the next four minutes and went into the locker room trailing 29-22.

The Shockers came out of the break with baskets by Stutz and Ramon Clemente to cut the deficit to three, 29-26, but a Buljan three-pointer gave TCU breathing room and the Horned Frogs never looked back.  Along with its advantage beyond the arc, TCU outscored WSU 11-0 at the free-throw line as the Shockers managed to get to the charity stripe just twice.

Toure' Murry added 10 points while Clemente had 10 boards. It marked the fifth time this season that Clemente has finished with 10 or more rebounds.

WSU kicks-off a three-game homestand to wrap up non-conference play as it hosts Gardner-Webb on Fri., Dec. 12, at Charles Koch Arena. Tip-off is set for 7:05 p.m.
