11/29/2008 7:00:00 PM

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Wichita State women's basketball team (4-2) picked up its first win on a neutral court since 2004 with a 65-45 win over Jacksonville State (0-6) in the consolation game of the 2008 Piggly Wiggly Classic.

The Shockers were led by Val Siemens' game-high 14 points, while Haleigh Lankster poured in a career-high 13 points on her 19th birthday. Junior Marisah Henderson added 12 for WSU's largest margin of victory since December of last season.

Jolie Efezokhae led Jacksonville State with 12 points and six rebounds. Daria Frazier added a career-best 10 rebounds for Wichita State.

The Shockers started off well, getting back-to-back three-pointers from Val Siemens and a transition basket from Jacie Hoyt to take an early 8-4 lead five minutes into the contest.

WSU extended the lead to as many as 19, using solid defense to force steals that led to 16 points off 12 Gamecock turnovers in the first 13 minutes of the half. The Shockers limited JSU to a 7-for-24 effort from the floor in the first half, allowing the Gamecocks to connect one just one shot from the floor for a 11-plus minute period in the frame.

The Shockers ended the first shooting nearly 42-percent, including a sizzling 56-percent from three-point range, making 5-of-9 attempts in the frame. WSU's perimeter defense was solid as well, limiting Jacksonville State to a 1-for-7 clip from long-range in the opening half.

WSU opened the second on an 8-0 run to extend its lead to 41-22 and the Shockers were rolling after JSU missed its first six shots of the half. The Shockers pushed the advantage to as many as 25 down the stretch in picking up the win.

The win snaps a 27-game winless streak away from Charles Koch Arena, one that dated back to Jan. 7, 2007. WSU is next in action when it kicks off a seven-game homestand by hosting Appalachian State on Dec. 8, in Charles Koch Arena.
