Box Score

WICHITA, Kan.--A thrilling come-from-behind game ended in a victory for the Shockers in the second round of the Old Spice Classic, 72-70.

The final minutes of the game made for an exciting finish at The Milk House at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex. After trailing by 12 points well into the second half, the Shockers shot themselves out of the deficit and into the victory.

Late in the second half, the Shockers took advantage of a Saints' turnover, converting it to a Toure' Murry layup and trimming their deficit, 60-55. After a Siena timeout, Murry struck again. His steal set himself up to drain a three, and simultaneously pulled his team within two points, 60-58.

Murry and player-of-the-game Clevin Hannah combined to knock down a pair of threes, and a J.T. Durley bucket gave the Shockers their first lead of the second half with a minute to play, 68-66. Siena did its best to foul the Shockers and buy itself some time to salvage the win, but to no avail. Wichita State hung on.

An early 10:30 a.m. tip-off time seemed to get each team out to a sluggish start. Midway through the first half, both WSU and Siena had tallied nine turnovers. An Owen Wignot steal pushed up the floor to Kenny Hasbrouck resulted in a three-point play for Siena, opening up the largest margin of the game thus far in the Saints' favor, 16-9.

A 6-0 run for Wichita State pulled the Shockers back within a point as the early game began to speed up. An Alex Franklin layup led to a 24-17 Siena lead, prompting an entire new lineup from Coach Gregg Marshall. Leading first-half scorers, Aaron Ellis and Ramon Clemente combined for five consecutive points to close the gap opened by Siena's 50 percent accuracy from the floor, 29-22.

With less than a minute to play in the first, WSU busted out four points before an Erik Harris layup ended the half, 33-26.

Five-straight points for Hannah to open the second half brought the Shockers within a field goal, 33-31.  A scoring rally ensued as Siena answered the brief Shocker run with a pair of easy layups. A 7-0 Siena run highlighted by Hasbrouck's made three created the first 10-point deficit for the Shockers in the second half.

Although Wichita State was shooting a strong 43 percent from the floor and dominating the offensive boards, the Shockers rarely found themselves scoring without an immediate answer from Siena. An A.J. Hawkins three-point play was negated during Siena's next trip down the floor. Edwin Ubiles sunk a three to again stretch the Saints' lead to double digits, 53-43.

Scoring 17 of his 19 points in the second half, Hannah's hot hand from behind the arc cut the Saints' lead to seven with less than eight minutes on the clock, but again Siena answered. Ubiles connected on a jump shot to halt Hannah's 50 percent three-point shooting, but only briefly.

Hannah and Murry led the Shocker offense with 19 and 18 points, respectively. Habrouck and Ubiles scored 20 points apiece to lead the Saints.

Wichita State will take on the winner of the No. 7 Michigan State v. Oklahoma State, Sunday at 12:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
