WICHITA, Kan. ? Wichita State (2-1) put together a 20-2 second half run to put away Centenary by a score of 65-44 in front of 10,332 on Monday night inside Charles Koch Arena.

The Shockers, who turned the ball over 11 times in the first half, and held just a 24-20 lead committed only five turnovers in the second half, outscoring the Gents 41-24. Freshman teammates Garrett Stutz and Toure' Murry traded first- and second-half scoring bursts to lead the Shocker offense. Stutz dominated inside on the offense end with 15 first half points, while Murry knocked down three 3-pointers early in the second half as part of a 15-point effort.

Stutz finished the game with a career-high 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting, along with three rebounds and two assists. Stutz was 2-for-2 from the free throw line as the Shockers were a combined 6-for-6 as a team at the charity stripe.

Nick Stallings was the only Centenary scoring in double figures with 10. Stallings also added five rebounds for the Gents.

WSU shot 53 percent (26-for-49) from the field compared to just 31 percent (15-for-48) for Centenary. The Shockers also outrebounded the Gents 34-22, led by six each from Ramon Clemente and Murry.

Stutz started off the offense for the Shockers with a two-handed slam on the first possession, then turned a layin into a three-point play that eventually led to his career night and give WSU a 5-2 lead in the first three minutes.

A three by Reggie Chamberlain at the 14:44 mark gave the Shockers an 8-3 lead, while Centenary was amidst a seven-minute field goal drought. Nick Stallings ended the scoring drought for the Gents and cut the Shocker lead to 8-5 with 11:21 left in the half.

The newcomers for the Shockers got into the act to push the lead to 18-13 with Chamberlain knocking down a couple jumpers and Stutz throwing down his ninth point of the first half with 6:49 left. After a Gents layin, Stutz picked up four more points to bring his first half total to 13, and give the Shockers a 22-15 lead.

WSU ended the first half with another Stutz layin off a great pick-and-roll feed from Clevin Hannah. The bucket gave WSU a 24-20 halftime lead. Stutz ended the half with 15 points, while Ramon Clemente led the Shockers on the glass with four rebounds in the period. Stallings knocked down two threes in the half for Centenary to lead the team with eight points.

The Shockers outrebounded Centenary 22-10 in the first half, but had 11 turnovers to just six for the Gents.

Murry got in the scoring column early in the second half with three-pointers on back-to-back possessions, but each time Centenary answered with a three of their own to the Shocker lead at four, 30-26.

Murry continued his hot hand, knocking down his fifth-straight field goal of the half as part of a quick 9-0 Shocker run. Stutz found Murry on a crisp backdoor cut for a layin, then Murry knocked down his third three of the half, before finishing off the run with a fastbreak layin on a feed from Hannah. The run pushed the Shocker advantage to 39-28 with 15:02 to play.

After a Chase Adams jumper for the Gents, Hawkins and Stutz continued to pound the inside with layins. Stutz got fouled on his and pushed the Shocker lead to 14 with his free throw, 44-30. The Shocker lead grew again as part of 11-0 run capped off by a turnaround jumper from J.T. Durley, his first points of the day. The Durley jumper pushed the lead to 20, 50-30

The Shockers held the Gents at bay for the final eight minutes with some reserves getting on the scoresheet. Eleven Shockers in all scored at least two points, with just Stutz and Murry in double figures.
