Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mo. ? Wichita State swept Missouri State to earn the first undefeated regular-season in school history. The Shockers (29-0, 18-0) won by scores of 25-20, 25-17 and 25-13.
It is the first undefeated regular-season in Shocker history and just the second-ever by a Missouri Valley Conference volleyball team. The 1999 UNI volleyball team finished the regular-season 26-0. It is also just the sixth time in MVC history that a team finished Valley play undefeated. UNI did it in 1995, 1998, 1999 and 2000, while the Shockers did it in 2005.
Emily Stockman led the Shockers with 15 kills, 11 digs and five blocks. Sarah McGee added 11 kills, while Kelly Broussard had 17 digs. Mary Elizabeth Hooper added 35 assists, nine digs and six kills.
The Bears and Shockers went back-and-forth in the first set until WSU grabbed a 10-7 lead after back-to-back kills by Lindsey Eckenrode. A Bear block cut the lead to 11-10, but an Emily Stockman kill put WSU up 16-11. The Shockers went on to win the set 25-20.
An Eckenrode kill gave WSU an early 5-2 lead in the second set. A kill by MSU's Cara Hackmann brought the Bears to within 5-4, but the Shockers went on an 8-0 run to take a 13-4 lead. The Bears didn't threaten the Shocks the rest of the way in the 25-17 win.
The Shockers raced out to an early 6-2 lead in the third set after an Eckenrode kill. An ace by Melissa Granville gave WSU a 12-6 advantage and WSU cruised to the 25-13 win.
WSU is next in action on Fri., Nov. 28 in the semifinals of the State Farm MVC Tournament. The Shockers will play an opponent to be determined at 7 p.m. at Charles Koch Arena.
