11/18/2008 8:00:00 PM

TULSA, Okla. -- The Wichita State women's basketball team (1-1) dropped its first decision of the 2008-09 season, as the Shockers fell, 89-76, at Oral Roberts (1-1), Tuesday evening inside the Mabee Center.

Marcy Sudbeck led the Shockers with her second-straight double-double, scoring a career-high 24 points with 10 rebounds. Marisah Henderson chipped in 15 points and a game-high eight assists. Amy Pryor led all players with 26 points for ORU.

The Shockers started the game with a lead, but ORU answered with a 9-0 run to take a 14-5 lead by the 14:00 mark of the first, a span that was fueled by WSU's 2-for-9 effort from the floor and four early Shocker turnovers.

Marcy Sudbeck snapped a near six-minute scoring drought for WSU with a 17-footer to cut the deficit to 14-7 with 11:50 left in the first, sparking a WSU run that cut the ORU lead to just three before the Golden Eagles answered with another run to break out to a 22-13 advantage following a Mariana Camargo free throw with eight minutes left in the first frame.

Back-to-back three-pointers by Janae Voelker broke the game open for the Golden Eagles, stretching the lead to 30-17 with 5:22 left before the break.

ORU would extend the lead to as many as 21 before taking a 47-28 lead into the break. Oral Roberts shot nearly 45-percent from the floor in the first frame, including a 6-for-13 effort from three-point range. The Shockers shot 37-percent, and were balanced in scoring but ORU held a commanding 26-13 edge on the glass.

WSU opened the second half on a 10-4 run to cut the deficit to 51-38 by the 16:45 mark of the second, but ORU made it into the bonus with just under 15 minutes left to play, making the Shockers pay with free throws and transition buckets to keep WSU from making a run.

Wichita State cut the deficit to as few as 14 with two minutes left after Val Siemens sank a pair of free throws, but the Shockers could not make a dent into the deficit down the stretch.

The Shockers return home Friday to face UTSA before taking on Iona inside Charles Koch Arena on Sunday.
