Box Score WICHITA, Kan. ? No. 12 Wichita State's match against Creighton increased with each set before the Shockers completed the sweep, 25-12, 25-18, 25-23.
The final set saw a battle of trading points from beginning to end. Neither team saw a lead greater than two points until an Allie Oelke kill put Creighton ahead, 18-15. Five straight Shocker points, highlighted by a pair of kills by junior
Emily Stockman tied the set at 20. Creighton battled back, but a Bluejay error locked the score at 23. Another Stockman kill sealed the deal, 25-23.
The first set opened with back-and-forth points, until kills by sophomore
Amanda Backes and junior
Lindsey Eckenrode coupled with a pair of Creighton errors opened up a 14-6 gap. Back-to-back kills by Stockman put the Shockers up 17-7. Creighton could do little else as WSU held the Bluejays to -.029 hitting percentage. Another Backes kill finished the set, 25-12.
Creighton came out tough in the second set, jumping out to an early 4-0 lead. The lead wouldn't last as three
Sarah McGee kills and another pair of forced Creighton errors turned the score back in the Shockers' favor, 10-7. Two more McGee kills followed by another from Eckenrode spread the lead to 17-12. The two combined for eight kills in the second set alone. Wichita State's offense continued to pick Creighton apart as the Shockers took the set, 25-18.
Stockman led the evening's offense with 13 kills, followed by Eckenrode with 10. McGee also paced the Shockers, hitting .368 with nine kills. Defensively, senior
Kelly Broussard led the defensive effort with 15 digs.
The Shockers (21-0, 10-0) are next in action on Sat., Oct. 25 against Drake at 6 p.m.
