Shocks Sweep Aces

EVANSVILLE, Ind. ? The Shockers earned their 32nd-straight Missouri Valley Conference road win with a sweep at Evansville. WSU (17-0, 6-0) won by scores of 25-17, 25-19 and 25-16.

A kill by Emily Stockman put the Shockers up 17-11 in the first set before the Aces went on a 3-0 run to pull within 22-15. A Lindsey Eckenrode kill gave WSU a 25-17 win. Stockman had six kills in the set, while Mary Elizabeth Hooper totaled 14 assists. The Shockers hit .393 in the frame.

The Shocker block gave WSU an early 4-1 lead in the second set, but an Evansville ace put the Aces up 8-7. Two aces from Hooper put the Shocks back up 12-9 and a kill by Sarah McGee increased the lead to18-11. WSU won the set 25-19 on a kill by Katie Niggemeyer.

The third set went back-and-forth early until the Shockers took a 12-8 lead on a kill by Stephanie Tokarz. WSU went on to the 25-16 victory.

Stockman led the Shockers with 12 kills and added 10 digs. Hooper had 36 assists and four aces, while Kelly Broussard had 13 digs.

The Shockers are next in action on Sat., Oct. 11 at Southern Illinois.
