Shockers Win Sixth Straight Match

WICHITA, Kan. ? Wichita State (13-4, 5-1) recorded its sixth-straight match sweep, downing Missouri Valley Conference foe Southern Illinois (10-6, 2-3) at Charles Koch Arena.

Wichita State jumped out to a 17-10 lead in game one and increased it to 27-17 on a kill by Lindsey Eckenrode. The Shockers never trailed in the game and took a 30-18 win.

The Shockers took a 12-7 advantage in game two before the Salukis cut it to 14-12 with a block. Three-straight Shocker points gave WSU a 17-12 lead and SIU got no closer than five the rest of the way in a 30-22 win.

In game three, the Shockers trailed 4-2 early, but scored 10-straight points on Emily Stockman's serve. The point streak was highlighted by two apiece from Eckenrode and Stephanie Tokarz.

Katie Niggemeyer then served five-straight to help the Shockers to a 22-8 lead, and they never looked back, taking game three by a score of 30-11.

Eckenrode led the Shocker attack with a season-high 12 kills. Tokarz added 11 kills and Stockman tallied 10. On the defensive side, four Shocker recorded double-digit digs led by Kelly Broussard's 24. Stockman notched a double-double with 16 digs, and Melissa Granville and Sara Lungren recorded 15 and 13 digs, respectively.

At the net, the Shockers totaled nine team blocks with Niggemeyer and Tokarz each having one solo block and three assisted blocks.

The Shockers next play at Missouri State on Fri., Oct. 5 at 7 p.m.
