State (7-4, 1-1) fought back from a 2-0 deficit to take game three, but
UNI (6-6, 1-1) came from behind in game four to take a 3-1 win over the
Shockers Saturday night in front of 2,294 fans inside Charles Koch
Arena.
The
Shockers were led by Emily Stockman's double-double, after she recorded
13 kills and 11 digs on the night. Sara Lungren's 17 kills were a match
best, while Abby Harsh led WSU with 45 digs.
Danielle
Brazda led UNI with 16 kills, while Laura Rowen chipped in 15 and
Ashten Stelken added 11. Kristin Belzung posted a match-high 51
assists, while five Panthers finished the night with double-digit digs.
UNI used four kills each from Laura Rowen and Danielle Brazda in the early going to take a 20-14 lead. The Shockers pulled to within 23-20 on a kill by Lindsey Eckenrode, but the Panthers went up 28-23 on a Shocker hitting error. UNI won game one 30-23 on a service ace.
The Shockers took an early 12-8 lead in game two, but the Panthers tied it at 16 with a block. UNI grabbed a 19-17 lead after a kill by Rowen and increased it to 22-19 on a block by Ashten Stelken and Kristin Belzung. WSU came back to tie it at 24 on a Panther hitting error and the teams traded points until UNI won the game 30-28.
The teams traded points in game three until the Shocks took a 10-8 lead after a Panther setting error. WSU
increased the lead to 19-12 after a hitting error by UNI and
back-to-back service aces by Melissa Granville made the score 22-12. WSU won the game 30-14 on a Panther hitting error.
The Panthers jumped out to a 6-2 lead in game four, but the Shockers reeled off four-straight to tie it at six. UNI came back to take a 13-9 lead, but again the Shockers responded with a four-point run to tie it at 13. The teams went back-and-forth until UNI grabbed a 22-19 lead on a Shocker hitting error. A service ace by Emily Stockman tied it again at 26 and the Shockers took a 27-26 lead on a kill by Katie Niggemeyer. UNI came back to win the game 31-29 with a block.
The Shockers next play host to UMKC on Tue., Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. inside Charles Koch Arena.
