Box Score DENVER, Colo. ? Wichita State (3-2) won its second-straight match at the Denver Invitational with a sweep of Auburn. The Shockers won by scores of 30-23, 30-19 and 30-23.
Emily Stockman had a match-high 16 kills for the Shockers along with seven digs.
Sara Lungren and
Stephanie Tokarz each chipped in nine kills apiece, while
Abby Harsh had 39 assists. Junior libero
Kelly Broussard added a match-high 17 digs for WSU.
The Shockers used a 7-0 run to take a 9-3 lead in game one and increased it to 21-12 after a service ace by Lungren. WSU reached its largest lead in game one of 11 at 25-14 and 26-15 and won 30-23 on a kill by Tokarz.
Broussard served the Shockers to a 5-1 lead in game two, but the Tigers responded with a 5-0 run to take a 6-5 lead. A service ace by
Melissa Granville gave the Shocks a 9-8 lead and WSU never trailed in the game again. WSU won game two 30-19 on an Auburn error.
Game three went back-and-forth until the Shockers took control at 24-19 after back-to-back hitting errors by the Tigers. Another Auburn hitting error gave WSU a 30-23 win.
The Shockers finish the Denver Invitational with an 8:30 p.m. match tonight against host Denver.
