Travis Banwart was
drafted in the fourth round by the Oakland Athletics during the first
day of the 2007 MLB First-Year Player Draft. Banwart is the 150th pick
overall.
Banwart, from Wichita, Kan., is 10-5 with a 2.68 ERA in 2007. In
110.2 innings pitched, he has allowed 95 hits, while striking out
111. During his three-years at Wichita State, Banwart is 27-10
with a 2.92 ERA. He also has 260 strikeouts in 292.2 innings
pitched.
WSU also had three signees taken during the first day. Pete Kozma
was taken by the St. Louis Cardinals in the first round, Jon Gilmore
was taken by the Atlanta Braves in the supplemental first round and
Derek Norris was taken by the Washington Nationals in the fourth round.
Day one included rounds one through five, while the draft will conclude tomorrow with rounds six through 50.
