Shockers Sweep Drake, 3-0

WICHITA, Kan. ? The Shockers continued their winning ways, claiming their 16th straight victory with a sweep over Drake University (30-14, 31-29, 30-15).  Angela Jakubov and Emily Stockman paced the Shockers with 13 kills each.

In game one, WSU jumped out to a quick 5-0 advantage on the strength of kills by senior Sara Lungren and sophomore Stephanie Tokarz.  With WSU leading 10-4, the Shocker put together a five-point run capped by kills from Emily Stockman.

WSU controlled the first game, taking a 30-14 victory and hitting an astounding .613 with 20 kills and one error in 31 attacks.

Game two was a seesaw battle from the start, featuring nine ties and two lead changes. But, with the score tied 29-29, the Shockers got back-to-back kills from Lindsey Eckenrode and Stockman to secure the victory, 31-29.

In the third game, with the Shockers holding a 10-8 advantage, Melissa Granville served 12-straight as part of a 13-point run for the Shockers. Stockman and Jakubov each collected three kills during the stretch. Amanda Backes came off the bench late in the game to finish off the Bulldogs with the final two kills of the game, and a 30-15 victory for WSU.

Kelly Broussard led the defense for the Shockers collecting 17 digs, while Abby Harsh turned in another solid performance with 45 assists. Stockman added 10 digs to her 13 kills for the only double-double of the match.  

WSU hit .317 in the match with a total of 59 kills and only 19 errors, while Drake hit .110 with 29 kills and 17 errors.

The win improves the Shockers record to 23-4 overall and 14-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference.

The Shockers will be back at home Saturday at 7 p.m., for the final home game of the season. WSU will take on Creighton in a match-up of two of the top three teams in the MVC.
