Shocks Fall in Five

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. ? Wichita State had its 19-match winning streak snapped in a five-game loss to Illinois State in the semifinals of the 2007 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. The Redbirds won by scores of 30-27, 32-30, 19-30, 27-30 and 15-13.

Emily Stockman led the Shockers with a career-high 24 kills and 30 digs, while Abby Harsh had 60 assists and 22 digs and Kelly Broussard had 34 digs.

The teams went back-and-forth in game one until the Shockers grabbed a 14-11 lead after a service ace by Emily Stockman. The Redbirds battled back to take a 15-14 lead, but the Shockers went ahead 20-18 after a service ace by Melissa Granville. With the score tied at 25, the Redbirds reeled off four-straight to take a 29-25 advantage. ILS won the game 30-27 on a Shocker service error.

A Stephanie Tokarz kill gave the Shockers an early 11-9 lead in game two, but an ILS service ace gave the Redbirds a 16-14 lead. ILS continued to lead until the Shockers tied it at 26 on a kill by Stockman. The teams traded points until a kill by Mallory Leggett gave the Redbirds a 32-30 win.

An ace by Granville gave the Shockers an early 10-7 lead in game three and an ace by Abby Harsh increased it to 17-12. WSU won the game 30-19 with a block by Jakubov and Harsh.

Game four went back-and-forth until a Redbird hitting error gave the Shockers a 22-20 lead. The Redbirds cut it to 24-25 with an ace by Erin Lindsey, but a Stockman kill brought the Shockers to game point at 29-25. A Tokarz kill gave WSU a 30-27 win.

The teams traded points until a Redbird hitting error gave the Shocks a 7-4 lead. A kill by M.C Richmond pulled the Redbirds to within 6-7 and they tied the game at seven on a kill by Leggett. A Shocker hitting error gave ILS a 12-11 lead and the Redbirds reached match point at 14-12 on another WSU hitting error. ILS won 15-13 on a kill by Lindsey.
