VB Wins Share of Valley Title, 3-0

WICHITA, Kan. ? Wichita State clinched a share of the 2007 Missouri Valley Conference title with a sweep of second-place Creighton Saturday night in front of 2,752 fans on Senior Night inside Charles Koch Arena. The Shockers (24-4, 15-1) won by scores of 30-26, 30-20 and 30-19. With the loss, Creighton falls to 19-9 overall with a 13-4 mark in Valley play.

On a night devoted to two Shocker seniors it was sophomore Emily Stockman who led the way, tallying a match-high 14 kills. Senior Sara Lungren joined her in double-figures with 10 kills in her final regular-season match in Charles Koch Arena. Senior Abby Harsh notched a match-best 39 assists, while the Shockers outhit the Bluejays .240 to .085. Harsh and Lungren are now responsible for leading the Shockers to three regular-season MVC titles during their time at WSU.

Creighton was led by Allie Oelke and Kelly Goc, who each registered 10 kills in the match, while setter Korie Lebeda led the Bluejays with 31 assists. Sarah Schulze recorded a match-best 14 digs for CU.

The teams traded points early in game one until a kill by Emily Stockman gave the Shockers an 8-4 lead. The Bluejays pulled to within one several times, but the Shockers went up 20-17 after another Stockman kill. WSU won the game 30-26 with another kill by Stockman. She finished the game with 10 kills, while hitting .333.

A kill by Kelly Goc gave the Bluejays a 7-5 lead in game two, but a service ace by Sara Lungren gave the Shockers an 8-7 lead. WSU increased it to 14-8 after a block by Stockman and Angela Jakubov and a Stockman kill gave the Shockers a 24-16 advantage. A CU hitting error gave the Shocks a 30-20 win in game two.

Game three went back-and-forth until a kill by Abby Harsh put the Shockers up 15-12. WSU reeled off another five in a row to take a 20-12 advantage. Another Stockman kill put the Shocks up 27-18 and WSU won the game 30-19 on a kill by Stephanie Tokarz.

The Shockers are next in action on Nov. 16 and Nov. 17 when they travel to Northern Iowa and Bradley.
