Box Score CARBONDALE, Ill. ? Wichita State won its 20th match of the season with a 3-1 victory over Southern Illinois (12-11, 4-7). The Shockers (20-4, 11-1) won by scores of 24-30, 30-20, 30-18 and 30-25.
Sara Lungren led the Shockers with 16 kills, while Emily Stockman and Stephanie Tokarz each had 15. Abby Harsh had a match-high 57 assists, while Kelly Broussard added 17 digs.
The teams played to a 14-14 tie in game one, but the Salukis pulled ahead 25-17. SIU took the first game 30-24 after hitting .340.
Game two went back-and-forth early until the Shockers took a 17-14 lead behind the serving of Angela Jakubov. Kills by Lungren, Stockman and Tokarz increased the lead to 21-17 and WSU won the game 30-20 on a kill by Harsh.
Lungren served the Shockers to a 7-4 lead in game three and increased it to 19-10 on a block by Tokarz and Stockman. SIU pulled to within 16-21 on a kill by Jasmine Conner, but the Shockers scored eight of the final nine points to take a 30-18 victory.
A Lungren kill put the Shockers up 19-15 in game four and the teams traded points the rest of the way. WSU won the game 30-25 on a service ace by Lungren.
The Shockers next play at Evansville at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
