Box Score WICHITA, Kan. ? Wichita State continued its winning ways, claiming its 12th match in-a-row with a sweep (30-26, 30-28, 30-22) over Illinois State at Charles Koch Arena on Saturday night.
The Redbirds raced out to a 3-0 lead in game one, but three kills and a solo block from Sara Lungren helped the Shockers take a 6-5 lead. The teams went back-and-forth until the Redbirds took a 14-11 lead after a block by Kari Staehlin and Erin Lindsey. A kill by Lindsey Eckenrode tied the game again at 16 and the Shockers took a 20-19 lead after a Redbird ball handling error. The teams traded points until a Katie Niggemeyer kill brought the Shockers to game point at 29-26. WSU won the game 30-26 on a kill by Emily Stockman.
The teams traded points early in game two until the Redbirds took a 14-12 advantage with a block by Staehlin and Peggy Riessen. The Shockers responded with a 3-0 run to take a 15-14 lead and increased it to 18-15 with a block by Niggemeyer and Eckenrode. Another kill by Lungren gave WSU a 21-16 advantage, but the Redbirds pulled to within 22-20 with a Staehlin kill. ISU tied the game at 23 with a block by Staehlin and Lindsey, but a kill by Lungren gave the Shockers a two-point lead at 26-24. A Redbird hitting error gave the Shockers a 30-28 win in game two.
Three-straight kills by Stockman gave WSU a 9-8 lead in game three and a kill by Niggemeyer increased it to 16-12. A Stephanie Tokarz kill gave the Shockers a 21-15 advantage and WSU cruised to a 30-22 victory.
The Shockers are next in action on Oct. 26-27 at Southern Illinois and at Evansville.
