Box Score WICHITA, Kan. ?Wichita State (11-2, 3-0) swept Northern Iowa (9-6, 1-1) in front of a school record crowd of 3,326. The old record was 3,124 set last season against UNI. The Shockers won by scores of 30-13, 30-27 and 30-20.
Sara Lungren led the Shockers with 12 kills and 12 digs, while Stephanie Tokarz added 11 kills and four blocks and Lindsey Eckenrode had 10 kills. Abby Harsh had 39 assists and four kills and Melissa Granville added 12 digs and four service aces.
Trista Humpal led UNI with 12 kills.
The Shockers jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in game one behind the serving of Sara Lungren and increased the lead to 11-4 on a kill by Lungren. Two aces by Melissa Granville gave WSU a 24-8 lead and the Shockers won the game 30-13 on a kill by Lungren.
A kill by Lindsey Eckenrode gave the Shockers a 6-4 lead in game two before a kill by Lungren increased the lead to 10-5. UNI pulled to within 17-11 on a kill by Trista Humpal, but the Shockers scored five of the next seven points to take a 22-13 lead. Back-to-back blocks by the Panthers cut the deficit to 22-16, but two kills by Amanda Moore gave the Shockers a 27-21 lead. WSU won game two 30-27 on a Panther hitting error.
The Panthers grabbed an early 6-3 lead in game three with a block, but WSU tied it at six with a kill by Angela Jakubov. A block by Lungren and Stephanie Tokarz gave the Shocks an 11-10 lead and another block increased it to 13-10. Lungren's 11th kill gave WSU a 23-17 lead and the Shockers won game three 30-20 on a service ace by Lungren.
The Shockers next host Bradley at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
