Shockers Fall to No. 25 Kansas State

MANHATTAN, Kan. ? Wichita State led late in games two and three, but could not close the deal in a 0-3 loss to No. 25 Kansas State. The Wildcats (4-1) won by scores of 30-21, 30-28 and 32-30.

Sara Lungren led the Shockers with 14 kills and also added nine digs, while Angela Jakubov added 11 kills and 10 digs, while hitting .348 in the match. Lindsey Eckenrode added 12 kills, while Abby Harsh had 33 assists and Melissa Granville had 20 digs.

The Shockers (4-1) jumped out to a 5-0 lead in game one, but the Wildcats came back to tie the game at seven. The two teams battled back and forth until KSU went on a late run to take a 30-21 victory.

WSU controlled game two and led most of the way until KSU used a 7-1 run at the end to take a 30-28 win.

Again in game three, the Shockers were in control, but could not close the deal. WSU led 29-28, but KSU scored two-straight points before a Stephanie Tokarz kill tied it at 30. A hitting error by the Shockers gave KSU a 31-30 lead and then a Wildcat service ace ended the game at 32-30.

The Shockers play two more matches on Saturday in the Varney's Kansas State Invitational. WSU plays Lipscomb at 10 a.m. and Montana State at 6 p.m.
