Shockers Defeat UTSA, 3-1

WICHITA, Kan. ? The Shockers improved to 2-0 on the year with a win over UTSA behind a career-high 19 kills from Sara Lungren. The win is the 27th-straight for the Shockers in Charles Koch Arena. Lungren also tied her career-high with 16 digs.

Setter Abby Harsh chipped in a career-high 46 assists, while Melissa Granville had a career-high 25 digs. Other Shockers in double-digit kills were Stephanie Tokarz with 11 and Angela Jakubov with 10.

The Shockers jumped out early in game one, grabbing a 12-5 lead off a kill by Lindsey Eckenrode. WSU outscored the Roadrunners 18-7 the rest of the way to take a 30-12 victory. WSU hit. 386 in the first game and was led by five kills from Sara Lungren and Katie Niggemeyer.

Game two was a different story for the Shockers as UTSA raced out to an 8-3 lead before breaking it open late by winning 30-19. WSU committed 17 hitting errors in game two.

In the third game, the two teams battled out to a 16-16 tie before the Shockers pulled away with five-straight points to give them a 29-21 lead. A kill by Lungren gave the Shocks the 30-22 victory.

UTSA kept it close in game four until the Shocks went on a 15-6 run to take a 21-13 lead. WSU won the match on back-to-back kills by Angela Jakubov.
