Box Score NORMAL, Ill. ? The Shockers fell in five tough games to Missouri State in the semifinals of the 2006 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. The Bears won by scores of 29-31, 30-25, 27-30, 30-21 and 15-11.
Sara Lungren led the Shockers with 17 kills and 23 digs, while Stephanie Tokarz had a career-high 16 kills with six blocks, while hitting .368 in the match. Abby Harsh added 60 assists and 11 digs, while Kelly Broussard had a team-high 27 digs.
Game one went back-and-forth with the teams racing out to a 9-9 tie. A block by Abby Harsh and Sara Lungren gave the Shockers a 12-9 lead before an ace by Lungren increased the lead to 17-12. The Bears responded with three-straight to pull within 17-15, but the Shockers went up 22-17 on a kill by Katie Niggemeyer. An ace by Kari Mattingly tied the game at 25 and the game was still tied at 28 before the Shockers won game one 31-29 on a Bear hitting error.
The Bears grabbed an early 11-8 lead in game two before WSU tied it at 14 on a bad set by the Bears. MSU used back-to-back kills by Katelyn Panzau to take a 17-14 lead and increased it to 21-16 on a service ace by Erin O'Connor. The Bears took game two 30-25 on a kill by Sarah Lansing.
MSU again jumped out in game three taking an 11-7 lead with a 6-0 run. The Shockers pulled to within 18-17 after a Bear hitting error and tied it at 18 with a block. A kill by Lungren tied it again at 22 and a block by Harsh, Lungren and Lindsey Eckenrode gave WSU a 24-23 lead. An ace by Eckenrode brought the Shockers to game point at 29-26 and WSU won the game 30-27 on an MSU hitting error.
A kill by Sara Thomas gave the Bears a 10-5 lead in game four, but the Shockers scored three-straight to pull within 10-8. A service ace for the Bears gave them a 17-11 lead and MSU continued to lead taking a 22-17 lead on a kill by Thomas. The Bears won game four 30-21 on an ace by O'Connor.
The Bears' blocking helped them to a 6-2 lead in game five and took an 8-4 lead at the halfway point. MSU continued to lead taking an 11-4 lead before a four-point run by the Shockers made it 11-8. MSU reached match point at 14-10 on a kill by Thomas and won the game 15-11 on a kill by Jamie Adams.
