Box Score CARBONDALE, Ill. ? Wichita State won its third match of the week with a sweep at Southern Illinois. The Shockers (15-3, 6-1) won by scores of 30-17, 30-24 and 30-21.
Angela Jakubov had a match-high 13 kills for the Shockers along with nine digs, while hitting .542. Sara Lungren added eight kills, 12 digs and four aces, while Abby Harsh had 36 assists and Melissa Granville had 16 digs.
The Shockers jumped out to a 9-4 lead in game one on a service ace by Sara Lungren and increased the lead to 14-7 on a kill by Angela Jakubov. Another Jakubov kill gave WSU a 21-12 lead and WSU won the game 30-17.
SIU took an early 3-2 lead in game two before a Jakubov kill gave the Shockers a 5-4 lead. The Salukis stayed close in the game before a service error and hitting error gave WSU a 16-13 lead. A kill by Lindsey Eckenrode made the score 25-17 Shockers and a kill by Katie Niggemeyer gave WSU the 30-24 win.
A Niggemeyer block gave WSU a 4-0 lead in game three, but SIU pulled to within 19-16 on a kill. A Lungren kill increased the lead to 25-19 and an ace by Lungren gave the Shockers a 30-21 win.
The Shockers next host Creighton and Drake next weekend.
