WSU Sweeps Kangaroos

KANSAS CITY, Mo. ? Wichita State swept UMKC (2-16) to win its 13th match of the season. The Shockers won by scores of 30-12, 30-10 and 30-21.

Lindsey Eckenrode led the Shockers with 12 kills, while hitting .550 in the match. Sara Lungren added 11 kills and nine digs, while hitting .348 and Stephanie Tokarz had eight kills and four blocks, while hitting .583. Abby Harsh had 40 assists and eight digs for WSU, while Melissa Granville had 12 digs.

The Shockers (13-3) jumped out to a 9-0 lead in game one behind the serving of Abby Harsh and increased the lead to 19-9 on a kill by Stephanie Tokarz. A 6-1 Shocker run gave WSU a 25-10 lead before the Shockers closed out the game 30-12 on a Kangaroo hitting error.

A kill by Lindsey Eckenrode gave the Shockers a 10-5 lead in game two. Back-to-back blocks by Tokarz and Jakubov gave WSU an 18-7 lead and the Shockers won game two 30-10 on a UMKC hitting error.

UMKC kept it close in game three until WSU took a 13-9 lead on a kill by Angela Jakubov. A kill by Katie Niggemeyer increased the lead to 21-13, but the Kangaroos responded with a 4-2 run to pull within 23-17. WSU won the game 30-21 on a kill by Sara Lungren.

The Shockers next play on Friday at Evansville.
