Box Score CEDAR FALLS, Iowa ? The Shockers regained a share of the Missouri Valley Conference lead with a 3-1 victory over league-favorite Northern Iowa (17-7, 9-2). WSU (18-4, 9-2) won by scores of 31-29, 28-30, 30-22 and 30-20. With the win, the Shockers have now won seven-straight against the Panthers and four-straight in the West Gym.
Freshman Lindsey Eckenrode had a career-high 22 kills for the Shockers, while also tying her career-high with six digs and hit .340 in the match. Other top performers included Abby Harsh with 60 assists, 10 digs and a career-high five blocks; Sara Lungren with 14 kills, 18 digs and four blocks; Stephanie Tokarz with 13 kills, while hitting .571; Angela Jakubov with 14 kills, seven digs and five blocks; Kelly Broussard with a match-high 28 digs and Melissa Granville with 14 digs.
A service ace by Melissa Granville gave the Shockers an early 4-2 advantage in game one, but UNI responded with a 4-2 run to tie it at six. The Panthers took a 10-9 lead on a kill by Kristin Belzung, but the Shockers went on a 6-1 run to take a 15-11 lead. A kill by Lindsey Eckenrode gave the Shocks a 19-17 lead and a kill by Stephanie Tokarz increased it to 21-18. The Panthers battled back to tie it at 23 and took a 24-23 lead on a Shocker ball handling error. The teams went back-and-forth the rest of the way with WSU winning the game 31-29 on a service ace by Sara Lungren.
The Shockers grabbed an early 5-3 lead in game two after a kill by Eckenrode, but UNI came back to take a 7-5 lead. The Panthers continued to lead grabbing as much as a six-point lead, but WSU went on a 5-0 run to pull within 20-21. UNI ended up winning game two 30-28.
UNI took an early 12-7 lead in game three and increased the lead to 15-9 on a kill by Trista Humpal, but the Shockers went on a 16-3 run to take a 25-19 lead. A kill by Angela Jakubov increased the lead to 27-20 and WSU won game three 30-22 on another kill by Jakubov.
The Shockers raced out to an 8-4 lead in game four and increased it to 12-8 on a kill by Tokarz. Back-to-back service aces by the Panthers pulled UNI to within 16-19, but the Shockers took a 25-17 lead on a kill by Eckenrode. The Shockers took the match with a 30-20 win in game three.
