Box Score WICHITA, Kan. ?Wichita State used a sweep of Drake to win its 16th match of the season. The Shockers (16-4, 7-2) won by scores of 30-19, 30-21 and 30-15.
The Shockers produced a balanced attack, with Lindsey Eckenrode leading WSU with eight kills. Katie Niggemeyer registered seven kills, while Sara Lungren and Kim Wadsworth each recorded six. Abby Harsh led all players with 28 assists, while Kelly Broussard registered 14 digs.
Drake's Emily Madden led all players with nine kills, while Chelsea Lauersdorf posted 12 assists. The Shockers limited the Bulldogs to a -.033 hitting percentage on the day, as Drake recorded 25 kills and 28 errors.
WSU hit for a .220 average on the afternoon, posting 42 kills to just 16 errors.
The two teams went back-and-forth in game one until the Shockers went on a 7-0 run to take a 21-15 lead. WSU increased the lead 24-16 on a block by Katie Niggemeyer and Abby Harsh and won the game 30-19 on a Drake hitting error.
WSU raced out to a 12-7 lead in game two after a service ace by Melissa Granville. A kill by Sara Lungren gave the Shockers a 21-14 lead and a Harsh and Angela Jakubov block increased the lead to 25-16. A Bulldog hitting error gave WSU a 30-21 win in game two.
A Harsh kill gave the Shocks a 12-6 advantage in the third game before WSU reeled off a 10-4 run to take a 22-10 lead. A Niggemeyer kill gave the Shockers a 25-12 lead and WSU won the game 30-15 on a block.
The Shockers are next in action on Oct. 20 and 21 at Bradley and UNI respectively.
