BATON ROUGE, La. - The Wichita State women's golf season has concluded at the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional. The Shockers finished in 17th place, carding scores of 312-308-315 for a total of 935 at the Louisiana State University Golf Club. Only the top six teams at the Regional advanced to the NCAA Championship.
Senior
Bryce Schroeder shot 79-75-76 over the three rounds for a total of 230. Schroeder finished tied for 56th place. Schroeder closes out her Shocker career with three All-Conference selections, two MVC Scholar-Athlete selections and three-straight MVC Championships. Schroeder also is the program's record holder for low 54-hole tournament score, shooting a 211 at the Johnie Imes Invitational earlier this season. She is also tied for the best single-round score in program history, shooting a 67 at the same Invitational.
2016 MVC Championship medalist
Taryn Torgerson finished tied for 69th place, shooting 75-79-80 for a total of 234 at the Regional. Torgerson was also an All-Conference and Scholar-Athlete selection this year.
Maria Alejandra Villalobos finished tied for 82nd place, carding 86-74-80 to finish with a score of 240. An All-Conference selection in 2015, Villalobos will return as a senior next year, and seek to become the first WSU women's golfer to win a Valley title all four years of her career.
MVC Newcomer of the Year
Gavrilla Arya shot 80-80-82 for a total of 242 to finish tied for 87th place. Arya was also an All-Conference selection this year, and looks to build on her strong spring where she notched two top-five finishes and one top-ten finish in six tournaments played.
Senior
Meghan Jack also finished tied for 87th place, scoring 78-85-79 for a total of 242. Jack closes out her career at WSU with two All-Conference selections (2014, 2016), an Elite 18 Award in 2014 and three-straight Valley titles. Jack is also a part of every top-ten list in the program record lists.
Head coach
Tom McCurdy also won his second MVC Coach of the Year award this season, and guided the Shockers to the best statistical season in program history which culminated in the program's fifth Missouri Valley Conference championship.
