MCALLEN, Texas - The Wichita State women's golf team finished in second place at the U. of Texas Rio Grande Valley Invitational. The Shockers shot a 311 today in rainy and windy conditions to finish with a score of 922. Overall, WSU carded scores of 317-294-311 in the three rounds.
Gavrilla Arya and
Meghan Jack both finished tied for fourth after totaling 228. It was Arya's second-straight fourth place finish, and her second top ten finish. Jack earned her ninth career top-ten finish. Arya shot 78-71-79, and Jack shot 81-71-76.
Taryn Torgerson earned her second career top-ten finish, ending up tied for ninth place. Torgerson shot 78-77-78 for a total of 233 at the Invitational.
Maria Alejandra Villalobos shot 81-75-78 for a total of 234, finishing tied for 11th place. It's the tenth top-ten finish in Villalobos' career.
Bryce Schroeder finished in 17th place after carding 80-78-80 to total 238. Schroeder earned her 15th top-20 finish.
"The girls fought for every shot, we just came up a couple shots short," said head coach
Tom McCurdy. "The weather was absolutely brutal, and this will be a great learning experience. I love how competitive this team is!"
The Shockers will remain in Texas for the Spring Break Invitational, as they head to Dallas on March 14-15.
