TULSA, Okla.- Junior Montse Blasco Fernandez and freshman
Summer Schlotterback fell in the qualifying bracket on Thursday afternoon in
the USTA/ITA Central Region Championships at the Case Tennis Center.
Blasco Fernandez won her first round match-up against Maddie
Johnson of Drake, 6-7, 6-3, 10-5. It was a familiar opponent for Montse, as she
had just defeated Johnson two weeks ago to capture the flight six championship
at the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships. The Tarragona,
Spain native was unable to earn a spot into the main draw however, as she was
defeated by Jessika Mozia of Minnesota in another tough three-set match, 6-3,
2-6, 11-9.
Schlotterback fell in her first-round
match against Biliana Milosevska of Arkansas State, 6-3, 6-1. After moving into
the consolation bracket, Schlotterback then fell to Ffion Davies of South
Dakota State, 6-2, 6-1.
The main draw begins on Friday with
singles and doubles play on the schedule. Results will be posted on
