WICHITA -- Morgan Boyd had 20 points while five other Wichita State University women's basketball players reached double-figures as the Shockers defeated the University of Texas Pan American 95-55 Sunday afternoon in Charles Koch Arena.
The 95 points scored by the Shockers is the highest total under head coach Jody Adams. Wichita State never trailed in the contest as the Shockers jumped out to a 10-0 lead during the first four minutes of the game.
Bianca Torre led all scorers with 21 points. Erin Lewis had two points, six rebounds and five assists for UTPA.
Haleigh Lankster recorded 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field while pulling down five rebounds. Michelle Price came off the bench to add 11 points and six boards while Alicia Sanchez, Heather Robben and Shannika Bryant each had 10 points for WSU.
Price came off the bench in the first half to pour in eight points on a perfect 4-of-4 shooting from the field. Dawkins had five points and four rebounds while Sanchez, Boyd and Heather Robben added another eight points to the WSU attack.
UTPA was led by Torre who led all scorers in the first 20 minutes with 12 points. Lewis had two points and five boards for the Broncs.
The Shockers shot 63 percent from the floor (19-of-30) compared to only 26 percent for the visiting Broncs (8-of-30). WSU dominated UTPA in the paint where the home team was able to drop in 26 points.
The WSU defense helped to stifle the UTPA attack as the Broncs committed 26 turnovers with the Shockers scoring 31 off those miscues.
Wichita State will now travel to Mt. Pleasant, Mich., to take on the Central Michigan University Chippewas on Wed., Dec. 22, with tip-off set for 12 p.m.
