April 9, 1979 - Defending NCAA champion Southern Cal defeats Wichita State 13-1 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. The Shockers commit five errors that lead to five unearned runs.
April 9, 1994 - Mike Drumright strikes out 17 hitters against Illinois State to set a Shocker record. The game is suspended in the 10th inning in Normal, Ill., with the score 2-all. Drumright, who didn't walk a batter, broke the mark of 15 strikeouts by Bryan Oelkers in 1982 against Indiana State.
April 9, 1996 - In front of Hoglund-Maupin Stadium record crowd of 1,848, Wichita State defeats Kansas 9-5. Leadoff hitter Randy Young scores four runs, walks four times, doubles and steals a base for the Shockers.
April 10, 1978 - Wichita State hires Gene Smithson with a four-year contract worth $40,000 a year. The contracts offers a raise of around $15,000 from his deal at Illinois State, where he coached three seasons. Athletic director Ted Bredehoft turns to Smithson after Louisville assistant Bill Olsen accepts the job and arrives in Wichita for a news conference before changing his mind.
April 10, 1998 - No. 11 Wichita State stuns Creighton 13-12 after falling behind 9-0 and 11-2 in Omaha. Pat Magness homers twice to drive in four runs for the Shockers.
April 10, 2004 - Wichita State's Heidi Yost wins the long jump (19 feet, 6 1/4 inches) and the triple jump (41-4 ¼) at the K.T. Woodman Track Classic at Cessna Stadium. Lindsay Eck wins the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.31 seconds.
April 10, 2018 - Gunnar Troutwine's three-run home run caps a five-run ninth inning in No. 20 Wichita State's 10-7 win at Oklahoma State. Alec Bohm and Greyson Jenista both drive in two runs for the Shockers, who trail 7-2 entering the eighth inning.
April 11, 1970 - Wichita State's Preston Carrington wins the high jump and long jump and ran on the first-place 440- and 880-yard relay teams at the Wichita State University Relays at Cessna Stadium. He also finishes second in the 100-yard dash and the 120-yard high hurdles.
April 11, 2007 - Damon Sublett's two-out single in the eighth inning lift No. 11 Wichita State past Nebraska 5-3 at Eck Stadium. Conor Gillaspie doubles twice for the Shockers, who score four runs in the eighth inning.
April 11, 2009 - Wichita State upsets Nebraska 3-2 (20-25, 20-25, 25-20, 25-20, 15-11) in an exhibition match in Scottsbluff, Neb. Emily Stockman hits .457 for the match for WSU.
April 12, 1930 - Harold Manning wins the mile (4 minutes, 33 seconds) and two-mile (9:50) runs and the Shockers defeat Oklahoma A&M 96 ½-34 ½ in a dual track meet.
April 12, 1989 - Greg Brummett holds Nebraska to four hits in a 3-0 win at Eck Stadium. Eric Wedge and Mike Jones homer for No. 5 Wichita State.
April 12, 2005 - Four Shocker pitchers hold Oklahoma State to four hits in a 2-1 win in Stillwater. Nick McCoola scores the winning run in the ninth inning on a wild pitch. The teams met for the first time since 1999 NCAA regional play and in the regular season for the first time since 1996.
April 13, 1981 - Heights High School guard Aubrey Sherrod signs a letter of intent with Wichita State. Sherrod, a McDonald's All-American chose the Shockers over Kansas State.
April 14, 2007 - No. 11 Wichita State defeats Southern Illinois 10-7 at Eck Stadium with Danny Jackson hitting a three-run home run.
April 15, 2000 - Second baseman Blake Blasi goes 4 for 6 in a 9-6 win at Illinois State and 2 for 4 in a 3-2 win in the second game. First baseman Pat Magness hits his 11th home run in the first game.
