Allen, Taylor Set for World Championships

WICHITA, Kan. –
Wichita State student-athletes Rayvon Allen and Taran Taylor prepare to compete at the IAAF World U20 Championships in Tampere, Finland on July 10-15.
 
Shocker athletes Rayvon Allen and Taran Taylor will compete in the red, white and blue as members of Team USA this week at the IAAF World U20 Championships in Tampere, Finland at Ratina Stadium.
 
Allen, a St. Louis, Mo., native is set to compete in the long jump on Tuesday, July 10 at 3:20 a.m. CT. The all-conference athlete qualified for the world championships after finishing second with a mark of 7.57m/24-10 at the USATF Junior Championships in Bloomington, Ind. Of the 28 athletes entered in the event, a total of 20 countries will be represented. Allen enters with the 10th best 2018 season mark of 7.71m/25-3.5 and will jump in the second the flight. USA long jump teammate JuVaughn Blake of LSU won the USATF Junior Championships with a mark of 7.68m/25-2.5, he enters the meet with the sixth best mark (7.84m/25-8.75) of the 2018 season.
 
USATF Junior National Champion, Taylor competes in the javelin on Friday, July 13 at 1:30 a.m. CT. The Arkansas City, Kan., native won the javelin at the USATF Junior Championships with a throw of 71.08m/233-2. He enters the competition with the fifth best mark (74.26m/243-8) of the 2018 season. Taylor's personal best (74.26m/243-8) ranks No. 6 on the US Junior all-time list. Taylor will compete against 26 other athletes from 20 countries, including USA Teammate Tzuriel Pedigo of Baton Rouge, La.
 
Team USA is comprised of 79 athletes from 24 states and led by head coaches Kim Dismuke and Sandy Fowler. Dismuke will be the first woman to serve as head coach for a Team USATF men's junior or senior national team.

The IAAF World U20 Championships will be digitally broadcasted on the NBCSN app and on the Olympic Channel. Daily recaps will be shown on NBC Sports Gold.
 
U23 Spanish National Championships

Results

Shocker sprinter Paula Garcia recently competed in the U23 Spanish National Championships. The sophomore won her prelim with a time of 24.66 and finished second in the finals with a time of 24.02.
