Frosa, Williams Cap Summer with Circuit Victories

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Rising junior Marius Frosa outlasted fellow Shocker Austin Williams to claim the ITA Summer Circuit (Kansas) singles title Monday, hosted by the University of Kansas. The two teamed up to claim the doubles title for a clean sweep in Lawrence.
 
Frosa, a native of Romania, earned the No. 1 seed in the field of 31. After a first round bye, Frosa started his run with a convincing 6-3, 6-0 win over Olathe's Rudra Dixit. Frosa rolled in the quarterfinals, dropping Aaron Umen of St. Louis to move into the semifinals against fourth-seeded Max Kurzban. After dropping the first set to the TCU sophomore, Frosa responded with 6-4, 11-9 victories to move to the finals.
 
Willams, a four-year member of the Shockers, earned the five-seed in the 31-man field.  Williams span of four-straight victories started with a 6-1. 6-0 win over Jacob Berven. The Wichita native rolled into the quarterfinals to face Illinois' Fletcher Scott after taking down Overland Park's Thompson Tong, 6-1, 7-5.  The two split sets before Williams came away with a 10-5 victory on his way to a 7-5, 7-5 victory in the semifinals over Denver University's Ignatius Castelino. 
 
Frosa rolled in the finals to claim his third title of the summer over Williams, 6-2, 6-4.
 
The two rolled in doubles action, starting with an 8-2 win over Travis Neilson and Alex Koca in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, the tandem outlasted Landon Hoover and Brandon Joost on their way to an 8-5 finals win over Cutter Sanders and Xavier Sanga.

Haru Inoue (Sr.) ATP-1076 – Has competed in four ITF Futures main draws in both singles and doubles.  Competing in Hong Kong and Japan, Inoue reached the quarterfinals of two main draws and collected wins over Ryota Tanuma (ATP, 677) twice and Yuta Kawahashi (ATP, 1465).  Reached two quarterfinals in doubles with Ryota Tanuma.
 
Marius Frosa (Jr.) -  Competed in five singles and three doubles tournaments with three victories. On top of winning ITA Summer Circuit singles and doubles, Frosa won the KS 79th Jayhawk Adult Open (June 8-10) with Eddie Stoica. Also competed in qualifying draw of  USA F17 Tulsa Futures and main draw of USA F19 Wichita Futures.
 
Austin Williams (R-Sr.) – Competed in five singles and three doubles tournaments. On top of winning doubles title with Frosa and singles finalist at ITA summer circuit, Williams paired with Samuel Beren as wildcarads to take on Aziz Dougaz and Guy Orly Iradukunda in the Wichita F19 Futures. Reached the quarterfinals of KS 79th Jayhawk Open with Arkansas freshman Joshua Bortnick. Reached quarterfinals in singles at Jayhawk Open and competed in two Futures events, in Tulsa and Wichita.
 
Eddie Stoica (Sr.) -  Has competed in four singles and two doubles tournaments so far this summer.  Claimed doubles title with Frosa at 79th Jayhawk Tennis Open, and reached the finals of open doubles at Jim Pearce Memorial Open in Illinois. Stoica reached the semifinals of singles at the Jayhawk Tennis Open and Jim Pearce Memorial Open.
