BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Shockers

Taran Taylor qualified for the 2018 IAAF World U20 Championships in Tampere, Finland on July 10-15.

Four Shockers competed this past weekend at the USATF Junior Champonships in Bloomington, Ind.
Rayvon Allen and
Taran Taylor each finished in the top-2 of their respective events advancing them to the 2018 IAAF World U20 Championships in Finland next month.

Taylor won the javelin with a throw of 71.08m/233-2, the Arkansas City, Kan., native recorded the mark on his first attempt and never looked back. The freshman recorded throws of 62.97m, 63.79m, 65.89m and 69.75m. Taylor held on to a near six meter lead before Tzuriel Pedigo recorded a mark of 70.48m/231-3 on his final attempt taking second place.

Allen placed second in the long jump with a leap of 7.57m/24-10. On his first attempt he recorded a mark of 7.19m, followed by 7.53m on his second attempt. In the third round of jumps the St. Louis, Mo., native recorded a mark of 7.57m/24-10. Ja'Von Douglas of North Carolina State followed equaling Allen's mark of 7.57m/24-10. Allen and Douglas were tied heading into the finals, in the finals Allen jumped 7.31m and 7.24m while Douglas recorded a mark of 7.26m. With the tie-breaker in place, Allen finished second due to his second best mark of 7.53m bettering Douglas' second best jump of 7.31m.

Other Shockers competing in the meet include
Ben Flowers placing fifth in the 5000m with a time of 15:01.69 and
Grant Downes finishing ninth in the decathlon with 6,422 points.

Shockers in the Professional Ranks
2018 graduate
Deja Young started her professional career this past weekend competing in the Desert Challenge Games. The Mesquite, Texas native came away with two first place finishes, winning the T46 100m in 12.42 and T46 200m in 25.47. Her next competition will be in Germany at The Berlin Open Grand Prix on June 30-July 1.

Former Shocker Kellyn Taylor competed at the 42nd annual Grandma's Marathon in Duluth, Minnesota. Taylor, competing for HOKA Northern Arizona Elite, crushed the course record by more than two minutes winning the race with a time of 2:24.28. Her winning time not only set a personal best, but she also recorded the seventh fastest all-time marathon by an American born female.
