Shockers Host Regular Season Finale

WICHITA, Kan.
-  The Shockers host the Shocker Open for the 2018 regular season finale Friday, May 4 at Cessna Stadium.
 
Twenty-two graduating seniors and juniors will be honored with a senior recognition at 5 p.m., at Cessna Stadium. Of the 22 graduating student-athletes, 17 have recorded a Shocker all-time top-10 mark in their respected event.
 
The Shocker Open begins with the field events at 1:30 p.m., followed by running events at 5:15 p.m.
 
13 men and nine women will be competing in a Shocker uniform for the last time at Cessna Stadium.
 
Men
 
Austin Chippeaux – A native of Goddard, Kan., currently has the No. 6 all-time outdoor high jump mark of 2.14m/7-0.25. He is a three-time all-MVC member, finishing third in the 2015 indoor and outdoor high jump and third in the 2017 outdoor high jump competition.
 
John Duvall – A native of Garden City, Kan., currently has the fourth fastest 400m hurdles time in Shocker history (50.91) and the sixth fastest indoor 60m hurdles (8.02) and outdoor 110m hurdles (14.13).  He is a three-time all-MVC member, including a second place finish as a member of the 2014 outdoor 4x100m relay and two third place finishes in the 2015 indoor 4x400m relay and 2015 outdoor 400m hurdles.
 
Gage Garcia – A native of Wichita, Kan., currently has the sixth fastest indoor 5000m time in Shocker history (14:31.82). Garcia led the men as the first Shocker to finish in the 2018 American Athletic Cross Country Conference Championships, placing 22nd overall.
 
John Hoplin – A Grand Forks, N.D., native and transfer from the University of North Dakota. Hoplin earned all-MVC honors finishing second at the 2017 javelin, after just missing all-conference honors in 2016 placing fourth.
 
Jake James – Came to Wichita State from Granite Hills HS in El Cajon, Calif., currently has the No. 9 all-time indoor 60m hurdle time of 8.09 and outdoor 110m hurdle time of 14.27.
 
Kyle Larkin – A native of Limerick, Ireland, Larkin earned MVC honors finishing second in the 2015 3000m steeplechase. Currently has the No. 10 5000m time of 14:42.00
 
Aaron Miller – Miller, a native of Ottawa, Kan., earned All-American honors in junior college. At his first year at WSU he was part of the DMR team that set an indoor school record with a time of 9:50.45.
Erick Ngaiza – A native of Bigbend, Swaziland, has personal best times of 6.99 in the 60m, 10.80 in the 100m, 21.90 in the 200m and 50.91 in the 400m.
 
Damien Odle – Odle, a native of Greensburg, Kan., won the 2016 MVC javelin championship and finished fourth at the 2016 NCAA West prelims. Currently has the school record in the javelin with a throw of 73.36m/240-8.
 
Isaac Poe – A native of Wamego, Kan., has been part of two all-mvc 4x400m relay teams. In 2017 he was part of the indoor 4x400m team that finished second and the outdoor 4x400m team that placed third. He currently has the fifth fastest 400m hurdles time in Shocker history (52.00).
 
Stan Skwarlo, III – A Lawrence, Kan., native. Was part of the 2018 DMR team that earned all-conference finishing second with a time of 10:01.18. The time also ranks No. 6 on the men's indoor all-time top-10 mark.
 
Austin Sturdy – A Clay Center, Kan., native led the men in the DMR who finished second at the 2018 American Athletic Conference Championships to earn all-conference honors. The time of 10:01.18 is the sixth fastest DMR ran in Shocker history.
 
Hunter Veith – A native of Cheney, Kan., Veith is a four-time All-American, most recently he finished second at the 2018 Indoor NCAA national championships in the decathlon (6,090). He is a five-time MVC champion and an eight-time all-conference member. Currently holds the schools record for heptathlon (6,090) and decathlon (8,009).
 
Women
 
Tyra Bickham – A Blue Springs, Mo., native and transfer from Northern Illinois. Bickham earned all-MVC honors in 2017 with a third place finish in the outdoor shot put. She currently has multiple WSU all-time top-10 marks including the No. 2 outdoor discus (52.24m/171-5) and shot put (14.79m/48-6.25), as well as the No. 5 indoor shot put (14.67m/48-1.75).
 
Meghan Holmes – Native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Holmes recently earned all-conference honors placing third in the triple jump at the 2018 Indoor American Athletic Conference Championships. She currently has two all-time marks, No. 7 indoor triple jump (12.37m/40-7) and No. 9 outdoor triple jump (12.38m/40-7.5).
 
Kelsey LathropA distance runner from Overland Park, Kan., currently has the No. 10 indoor all-time 800m time of 2:13.88. She has recorded two top-five finishes in the 2018 season, including an individual fifth place finish in the 400m (1:00.07) and as part of the 4x400m team that finished third at the Central Missouri Mule Relays.
 
Jordan Maestas – Maestas a native of Leavenworth, Kan., has three top three finishes this outdoor season. She has personal best times of 4:56.15 in the 1500m, 5:18.66 mile, 10:14.05 3000m, 17:42.62 in the 5000m, 38:00.46 in the 10,000m and 11:24.12 in the 3000m steeplechase.
 
Katie Murray – Murray a native or Rolla, Kan., recently cracked the WSU all-time top-10 list in the outdoor high jump clearing 1.73m/5-8. Murray has two first place finishes in the 2018 outdoor season winning the K.T. Woodman Classic high jump (1.62m/5-3.75) and the Central Missouri Mule relays (1.73m/5-8).
 
Krisha Parmar – A Wichita East HS grad and Wichita, Kan., native has competed in four meets during the 2018 season. Her best finish came at the Central Missouri Relays where she placed fifth in the javelin with a throw of 34.45m/113-0. She ends her career at WSU with a personal best 40.61m/133-2.75 in the javelin.
 
Kendra Schoening – A native from Lincoln, Neb., has two top-10 finishes in the 2018 season, including a third place finish in the 1500m (4:57.73) at the Central Missouri Relays.

Kelsey Tenbrink - A native of Berryton, Kan., has the No. 10 mark in the javelin with a throw of 44.15m/144-10. She has competed in five meets during the 2018 season, including three top-five finishes and one first place finish at the Central Missouri Mule Relays.
 
Deja Young – A Mesquite, Texas native, she finished her career with multiple marks in the all-time top-10 lists. She ran part of the 4x100m team in 2015 that broke the school record with a time of 44.30. As well as part of the No. 6. 4x100m team (45.67) and No. 9 4x100m team (45.87). Individually she has the seventh fastest time in the 60m (7.63). She finishes her career with All-American honors as part of the 2015 4x100m team that finished 16th.
