WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State's track and field program is set to have 14 student-athletes compete in the first round of the NCAA West Regional beginning Thursday, May 24-26 in Sacramento, Calif.
Leading the Shockers is the Nation's No. 1 javelin group that qualified four men to the first rounds, including the fifth best thrower in the nation
Aaron True (77.49m/254-3) and the No. 7 thrower
Taran Taylor (74.26m/243-8).
John Hoplin and
Damien Odle each qualified and both rank in the top-50 in the nation, Hoplin enters the meet No. 17 and Odle at No. 21.
American Athletic Conference Champion
Austin Corley qualified with the nation's ninth fastest time of 50.07 in the 400m hurdles. He returns to the NCAA West Regional for the second consecutive year. Senior
Isaac Poe makes his second NCAA West Regional appearance and enters the meet ranked No. 37 in the West.
The horizontal jump duo of true freshman
Rayvon Allen and All-American
Jared Belardo each qualified for both the long jump and triple jump, but each elected to focus on the long jump. Belardo finished runner-up at the American Athletic Conference Championships with a mark of 7.85m/25-9.25, his jump is No. 11 in the West Region. Allen enters the meet ranked No. 21 in the West with a jump of 7.71m/25-3.5.
Conference runner-up in the pole vault
Hayden Bugner set a personal best height clearing 5.15m/16-10.75, his mark ranks No. 36 in the West Region. Bugner is making his second appearance in the NCAA West Regional in as many years.
Zack Penrod, American Athletic Conference runner-up in the 1500m, qualified for the first rounds with a season best time of 3:45.41. He is making his first appearance at an NCAA West Regional meet.
The women qualified four athletes, including two in the javelin, one in the shot put and
Winny Koskei in the 5000m and 10,000m.
Two-time American Athletic Conference Champion
Winny Koskei qualified for both the 5000m and 10,000m races. She has season best times of 16:30.16 in the 5000m and 34:47.00 in the 10,000m
Carlea Miles leads the javelin duo of herself and freshman
Kendra Henry. Miles finished with all-conference honors two weeks ago with a season best toss of 49.75m/163-3. Henry won The American heptathlon and threw a personal best 47.71m/156-6 in the javelin.
Junior
Kelsey Slawson is making her first appearance at an NCAA West Regional in the shot put. She enters the meet ranked No. 34 after setting a school record at the 91st Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays with a mark of 15.17m/49-9.25, she bettered that record winning the Shocker Open with a mark of 15.56m/51-0.75.

Hunter Veith is an automatic qualifier in the decathlon, he ranks No. 2 with 8,046 points.
