Women Finish First, Men Second at ESU Relays

EMPORIA, Kan. –
The Wichita State women won the ESU Relays with 114 points, while the men finished second with 132.5 points Saturday at Emporia.
 
Women
The women's team combined to have 13 top five finishes in the 22 scored events, including nine top three finishes and two event champions.
 
Senior Meghan Holmes won the triple jump with a mark of 11.99m/39-4 and Kendra Henry won the javelin with a throw of 43.88m/143-11.
 
Senior Jordan Maestas was the lone Shocker in the 3000m steeplechase running 11:40.04 to finish second.
 
Shockers had two top three finishes in the 100m hurdles, led by transfers Sarah Hines and Alex Whatley. Hines finished second with a time of 14.63 and Whatley ran 14.82 to place third, both women ran WSU personal best times. Whatley continued with another strong performance in the 400 hurdles finishing third with a time of 1:06.71, followed by Natalie Halfman in sixth 4:08.32.
 
Paula Garcia led the 200m group with a second place finish in 24.71, Morgan Prather ran 26.85 and Henry clocked in at 28.40.
 
Katie Murray led the high jump group with a third place finish clearing 1.66m/5-5.25, Shania VanNoster followed in sixth clearing 1.63m/5-4.25 and Abbi Bird placed 12th (1.50m/4-11.0).
 
Deja Young finished fourth in the 100m with a time of 11.96. The All-American was also part of the 4x100m relay that finished third with a time of 47.20. Hines led the A Team, while Garcia was second, followed by Halfman and Young was anchor.
 
The 4x400m relay teams took third and fourth. The A Team of Garcia, Halfman, Whatley and Holmes finished third with a time of 4:11.45 and the B Team followed in fourth with a time of 4:15.55.
 
Redshirt freshman Amanada Kakoulias had two personal best, including a fourth place finish in the javelin with a throw of 40.08m/131-6. In the discus she recorded a personal best 36.15m/118-7 to place 12th.
 
The women's pole vault group was led by freshman Jewel Eck who finished fourth clearing 3.40m/11-1.75. Fellow freshmen Alyssa Wheller placed seventh (J3.40m/11-1.75) and Mia Moret finished 11th (J3.10m/10-2).
 
Suzie Wright led the group of women in the 5,000m finishing seventh with a time of 18:35.18, Deidra Walker followed finishing 12th with a time of 19:19.94 and Katie Cumpston in 15th (19:24.98). McKenna Paintin ran 4:56.86 to finish sixth in the 1,500m, while Emma Stamm placed 19th with a time of 5:07.58.
 
Men
True freshmen Rayvon Allen won the triple jump with a mark of 15.64m/51-3.75 (w/4.1), his second best jump 15.49m (w/3.2) qualifies for the eighth furthest jump in Shocker history and currently ranks as the ninth best mark in the NCAA. Allen wasn't finished with just winning the triple jump, the St. Louis, Mo., native finished fifth in the 200m with a time of 22.00.
 
Freshman Miles Griffith won the high jump clearing 2.03m/6-8, while Kole Konrade cleared 1.95m/6-4.75 to place third.
 
Eric Etie led the pole vault group finishing third with a personal best clearing 4.60m/15-1, while fellow freshman Zach Kudlinski placed 10th (4.30m/14-1.25).
 
In the javelin, Jeff Ast led the group with a second place throw of 56.94m/186-10, followed by Davon Spexarth in fourth (55.05m/180-7).
 
Denvoir Griffin led the men in the 100m dash, finishing fifth with a time of 10.58, followed by Mike Wells in sixth with a time of 10.66. Richard Sandefur finished 19th running 10.90. The 4x100m relay group of Griffin, Allen, Erick Ngaiza and Wells finished third with a time of 41.33.
 
Three athletes finished in the top 10 of the 110m hurdles, including multi-athlete Jake Horsch's second place finish with a personal best time of 14.94. Grant Downes followed in eighth (15.30) and Kaden Griffin rounded out the top 10 running 15.32.
 
The Shockers had four athletes finish in the top 25 out of 40 runners in the 200m, including Allen's fifth place finish (22.00), Richard Sandefur placed ninth (22.33), Ngaiza finished 16th (22.58) and Miles Griffith placed 25th with a personal time of 23.08.
 
Horsch finished in fourth place of the 400m dash with a time of 49.28, Adam Mudge  placed 12th in the 400m hurdles with a time of 58.97.
 
The 4x400m relay A Team of Allen, Horsch, Ngaiza and Skwarlo III finished second with a time of 3:21.54, the B Team (Sandefur, Griffin, Mudge and Aaron Miller) finished seventh running 3:38.63.
 
Shocks finished three in the top five of the 3,000m steeplechase, led by Cory Landon finishing second with a time of 9:35.64. Ethan Kossover in third (9:37.79) and Austin Sturdy finished fourth with a personal best time of 9:40.79.
 
Ben Flowers ran 4:01.89 to place fourth in the 1,500m, followed by Stan Skwarlo III running 4:04.43 to place eighth. Alex Moen finished fourth in the 5,000m with a time of 15:24.01.
 
Isaiah Evans had a strong showing with two top 10 finishes, including one top five finish. Evans finished fifth in the discus with a throw of 44.35m/145-6 and seventh in the hammer with a toss of 51.00m/167-4.

The majority of the team will have off this next, while a select few athletes will travel across town to compete at the Friends Invitational hosted by Friends University.
