Shocks Send 16 Athletes to 91st Texas Relays

WICHITA, Kan.
– Wichita State will send 16 athletes to compete at the 91st Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas, at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
 
The 91st Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays begins Wednesday and will run through Saturday afternoon.  The four-day meet will host more than 7,000 competitors from 712 high school teams, 195 college/university teams while 35 states represented among the entries. Athletes from 21 countries will compete as well.
 
More than a dozen Olympians are set to compete at the Texas Relays this year.
 
Wednesday
Ben Johnson and Hunter Veith are the only Shocker athletes competing Wednesday, they enter the Decathlon starting at 11 a.m. CT. Johnson entered last week's Shocker Multi and was in second place after eight events with 5,620 points before pulling out of the javelin and 1500m. Veith enters his first multi of the outdoor season. The four-time All-American is looking to continue his stellar senior season after finishing second in the heptathlon at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships.
 
Thursday
Day Two of the decathlon continues with the 110m hurdles at 10 a.m. CT. Section B of the men's javelin is set to start at 2:15 p.m., All-American Damien Odle, senior John Hoplin and true freshman Taran Taylor are entered that event. Odle leads the group with a season best 67.87m/222-8, followed by Taylor (67.23m/220-7) and Hoplin (63.31m/207-8). Hayden Bugner is the lone Shocker competing in the men's pole vault starting at 2:30 p.m, Kelsey Tenbrink throws at 5:15 p.m., in section B of the women's javelin. Austin Corley and Isaac Poe run their preliminary race of the 400m hurdles at 5 p.m., while Nathan Wickoren ends day two for the Shockers competing in the 3,000m steeplechase at 8 p.m.
 
Friday
Kicking off the third day of the Texas Relays is the preliminary men's 4x400m relay team of Corley, Poe, Jonson and Veith the relay team will run their preliminary race at 9:35 a.m. Jared Belardo and Tyra Bickham will compete in their respected events at 10 a.m., Belardo is entered in section B of the long jump while Bickham will compete in section B of the women's shot put. Throwing in section A of the women's javelin is junior Carlea Miles, the event is set to start at 11:30 a.m. In the afternoon session, at 12:30 p.m., Belardo enters his second event of the day competing in section B of the triple jump while senior Austin Chippeaux high jumps in section B starting at 1 p.m. In Friday's evening session Aaron True throws the javelin in section A of the respected event at 6 p.m., he leads all Shockers in the event with a throw of 69.18m/227-0. The men's 400m hurdles final is set for 7:05 p.m.
 
Saturday
Bickham competes in her second event of the meet throwing the discus in section A at 1:30 p.m., and Kelsey Slawson competes in section A of the shot put at 4 p.m. The men's 4x400m relay final is set for 4:05 p.m.

Each day of the Texas Relays will be aired on the Longhorn Network,  Wednesday at 6-7:30 p.m., Thursday at 4:30-6 p.m., and 6-8 p.m., Friday at 9:30-12:30 a.m., and 7-8:30 p.m., and Saturday 1:30-5:30 p.m.
