Veith Punches Ticket To Indoor Championships

WICHITA, Kan.
– Two-time All-American Hunter Veith will compete in the 2018 NCAA Indoor National Championships on March 9-10 in College Station, Texas.
 
Veith enters the championships as the No. 2 seed with a score of 5,998 (6,023 converted) in the heptathlon.
 
The multi-athlete started the 2018 campaign winning the Shocker Multi, the only meet he competed in a heptathlon, on Dec. 1 with his personal best and school record score of 5,998 points. His mark was the nation's best for seven weeks until Tim Duckworth of Kentucky scored 6,071 points on Jan. 19 at the Clemson Invitational.
 
The Cheney, Kan., native returns to the national stage after qualifying for the 2017 Indoor National Championships and 2017 Outdoor National Championships. At last year's indoor championships Veith earned All-American honors finishing ninth in the heptathlon with 5,760 points, in outdoor he earned his second All-American honor finishing sixth in the decathlon with a score of 7,866.
 
Wichita State's last indoor national champion was in 1996, Einars Tupuritis won the men's 800m with a time of 1:45.98. Harold Manning was the first Shocker to win a national title winning the two-mile run in 1936.
 
Veith competed last weekend in The American Athletic Conference Championships earning all-conference honors finishing third in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.03. He also finished fourth in the long jump (7.40m/24-3.5) sixth in the pole vault (4.94m/16-2.5), seventh as a member of the 4x400m team (3:20.04) and eighth in the high jump (1.96m/6-5), to score a total of 16.5 points in the meet.

Athletes qualified by finishing with a mark in the top 16 of their respected event.
