WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State's track and field program completes Day two of the third annual Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, Kan., and Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.

Shocker women
Tyra Bickham,
Kelsey Slawson and
Meagan Williams competed in the shot put at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
Junior Slawson led the group finishing ninth with a mark of 14.76m/48-5.25, followed by Williams in 16th (12.91m/42-4.25) and Bickham in 19th (12.70m/41-8).
Day one competition consisted of
Isaiah Evans and Williams competing in the weight throw. Evans placed eighth in the men's weight throw with a mark of 17.81m/58-5.25 and Williams finished 13th in the women's weight throw with a mark of 15.86m/52-0.5
Gorilla Classic
The distance team had a strong showing especially in the men's mile, unseeded and seeded races. The Shockers ran a total of seven athletes in the two races combined and each athlete finished with a personal best. Senior
Gage Garcia won the mile unseeded race with a time of 4:16.01, followed by
Ben Flowers in second (4:16.58),
Austin Sturdy in 13th (4:21.36) and
Ethan Kossover in 18th (4:22.88). In the men's seeded mile,
Zack Penrod won the race with a meet and facility record of 4:03.39.
Reno Law placed second (4:11.33) and
Nathan Wickoren finished the race with a time of 4:13.65.
The women's distance group followed up with personal best times of their own. Freshman
Winny Koskei placed seventh with a time of 10:01.91 and senior
Jordan Maestas finished 10th with a time of 10:14.05.
McKenna Paintin finished 11th in the seeded mile race with a personal best 5:08.87.
Senior Huter Veith won the men's 60m hurdles prelim with a time of 8.03 and would better that time winning the finals in 7.97.
Austin Corley won the 400m unseeded race in a personal best 48.16
Hayden Bugner placed fourth in the men's pole vault invite clearing 4.98m/16-4.
Katie Murray equaled her personal clearing 1.67m/5-5.75 in the women's high jump invite.
Shockers are next in action Friday, Feb. 16 at the Nebraska Tune-Up in Lincoln, Neb., and Saturday, Feb. 17 at the Steve Miller Open in Manhattan, Kan.
