WSU Adds Two Transfers to Volleyball Program

WICHITA, Kan. – Kali Eaken, a native of Kansas City, Mo., and Michaela Putnicki, a native of Monument, Colo., have transferred to Wichita State to continue their volleyball careers. Eaken transferred from Louisville, while Putnicki transferred from Penn State. 

Eaken, a 5-foot-10 setter, and Putnicki, a 6-foot-1 outside hitter, will both be enrolled at WSU for the spring 2018 semester and will be eligible to play for the Shockers immediately. Eaken will be a redshirt senior in the fall and Putnicki will be a sophomore.
 
Eaken played on two NCAA Tournament teams at Louisville in 2015 and 2017. As a redshirt sophomore in 2016, she averaged 8.69 assists, 0.16 aces, 1.56 digs and 0.20 blocks per set. She had a career-high 58 assists at Syracuse in 2016 and also finished the season with four double-doubles. In 2014, she redshirted at Kansas State.
 
Kali was a three-time first team all-state selection at Bishop Miege High School and was ranked No. 27 nationally in the Class of 2014 by PrepVolleyball.com. She was named the 2013-14 Gatorade Kansas Volleyball Player of the Year and was also a first team Under Armour All-American as well as the 2013 Kansas Volleyball Association 4-1A Player of the Year.
 
She is the daughter of Bryan and Tina Eaken.
 
Putnicki played on a Penn State team that advanced to the Final Four in 2017. She played in three sets as a freshman with six kills and three digs, while hitting .286. She played in wins over UT-Martin, Delaware and Wake Forest.
 
Michaela led her team to 4A Colorado state championships in 2014 and 2016 at Lewis-Palmer High School. She was the 2016 Gatorade Colorado Volleyball Player of the Year and was also a third team Under Armour All-American. In 2015, she earned PrepVolleyball Club All-America honors as she led her team to a state runner-up finish.
 
She is the daughter of Michael and Michele Putnicki.
