WICHITA, Kan. – After recording the American Athletic Conference's first point-assist double-double of the year and leading his team to a pair of road victories, Wichita State's
Landry Shamet was named to the league's weekly honor roll.
Shamet – a redshirt sophomore point guard out of Kansas City – averaged 13.5 points and 7.0 assists in wins at ECU and Tulsa. He posted a 3.5-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio and made 7-of-14 three-point attempts.
Thursday at ECU, he scored 11 points and tallied a career-high 11 assists with just one turnover. Shamet became just the third player in program history to record 11+ assists in a true road game. The Shockers' 32 assists on 38 baskets in that game was the most by an NCAA road team this season.
Saturday at Tulsa, Shamet scored 16 points to lead the Shockers to their 11
th consecutive true road victory – one shy of the school record.
This is the fifth weekly honor for Shamet, who was named American Player of the Week on Dec. 11. He's made the American Honor Roll on four other occasions (Nov. 27, Dec. 26, Jan. 2 and Jan. 15).
WSU (15-2, 5-0 American) gained 63 votes in Monday's Associated Press Poll (up to 1283) but dropped two spots to No. 7. The news was better on the Coaches Poll side, where the Shockers picked up 78 votes and climbed one spot to No. 4.
