WICHITA, Kan -
Wichita State's track and field program prepares for the first road trip of the 2018 indoor season, sending 26 men and 26 women to compete at the WSU/KSU/KU Triangular on Saturday, Jan 13., in Manhattan, Kan., at the Ahearn Fieldhouse.

Bragging rights are on the line Saturday as this triangular brings the three Division I programs together under one roof.

"We work hard at Wichita State to make sure our athletes have an opportunity to compete, " said head track and field director Steve Rainbolt, "The KU/K-State/Wichita State triangular on Saturday is a major focus event for us, we really love that this happens with the three division one schools in the state of Kansas."

What To Watch For

True freshman Rayvon Allen will compete in his first meet as a Shocker. The highly recruited jumper comes in with a personal best 15.72m/51-7 in the triple jump, which would rank third best in Shocker history, right behind junior Jared Belardo. Look for that duo to perform well in both the long jump and triple jump. True freshmen Miles Griffith and Clifford Robinson III each had strong debuts Thrusday in the Shocker prelude. Griffith won the high jump competition with a mark of 2.07m/6-9.5, expect him and senior Austin Chippeaux who has a personal best 2.14m/7-0.25 to compete well for the Shockers. Robinson cracked the Shocker top ten list finishing second in the 60m with a time of 6.89 at the Shocker Prelude, look for him and sophomore Denvoir Griffin who has a personal best 6.88 to represent the Shocks.

On the women's side,  junior Alesa Frey has been leading a young pole vault group that finished three athletes in the top five at the Shocker Prelude. The high jump duo of Katie Murray and Shania VanNoster performed well on Thursday, each came up just short of their collegiate personal best to finish second and third. Expect the throwers for Wichita State to have a strong performance led by junior Kelsey Slawson who has the Shockers all-time best 15.18m/49-9.75 in the shot put. Slawson led the group who finished first, second and third at the Prelude. The distance group of Winny Koskei, Jordan Maestes and Suzie Wright will be something to keep an eye on.

This Time Last Year

Wichita State scored 217 points to finish third at the Triangular, Kansas finished first with 242 and Kansas State second with 231 points. The Shockers won a total of seven events. The women's shot put team of Slawson, Jamesia Milton and Williams took first, second and third.

Field events are set to being at 10:00 a.m., followed by the running events at 1:00 p.m.
