SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Wichita State's men were 20th in the five mile Blue Race and the women were 12th in the 5K Gold Race Friday afternoon at the Joe Piane Invitational on the Burke Golf Course.
Wichita State's men entered the race ranked No. 8 in the Midwest Region and ran in the Blue Race for higher-ranked regional teams. The men placed 20th in the Blue Race, which featured 172 runners.
Nathan Wickoren was the men's top finisher with an 89th place finish in 25:03.7, followed by
Gage Garcia's 94th place finish and
Zack Penrod's 95th place finish both in 25:06.6.
Joe Harter was 132nd with a time of 25:48.0 and
Ben Flowers rounded out WSU's five scores with a 137th place in 25:53.4.
Wichita State's women's team entered the 5,000m Gold Race with eight athletes that featured 172 runners.
Winny Koskei led the women's team as the top runner finishing in 28th place with a time of 18:01.9, followed by
Jordan Maestas' 53rd place in 18:21.2.
Yazmine Wright was 62nd with a time of 18:28.9,
Gabriela Reyna placed 67th in 18:34.9 and
Tangy Wiseman rounded out WSU's top five with a time of 18:49.2 to finish 91st.
The Shockers will run five men and two women at tomorrow's Rim Rock Classic in Lawrence, Kan., the women run a 6K at 9:00 a.m., followed with the men running an 8K at 10:00 a.m.
