WICHITA, Kan. -- Wichita State University President John Bardo will help unveil a replica statue of former Shocker men's basketball great Dave Stallworth and reveal plans for its future location outside of Charles Koch Arena during a special ceremony.
 
The announcement will take place at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28 in the Charles Koch Arena Champion's Club and is open to the public.
 
Stallworth – a three-time All-American for the Shockers from 1962-65 – passed away last March.
 
Professional sculptor Ann Larose of Tucson, Ariz. has been commissioned to create the life-size, bronze statue. It will feature a smiling Stallworth in a classic, jump-shot pose.
 
Funds for the project are being raised privately. The ongoing effort is spearheaded by an organizing committee that includes two of Stallworth's former teammates, Bob Powers and Mohamed Sharif, along with Jerry Aaron, Gary Austerman, Herb Krumsick and Bob Litan.

Any excess funds raised above the cost of the statue and its placement will be used to endow a Dave Stallworth Memorial Scholarship for WSU students majoring in elementary or secondary education, with a preference designated for African-American recipients.
