WICHITA, Kan. – Head coach
Kristi Bredbenner and the Wichita State softball team open the fall schedule this weekend as they play host to Hutchinson Community College and Crowder College, Saturday and Sunday at Wilkins Stadium.
The Shockers will begin fall ball at 12 p.m. on Saturday with a matchup against a Hutchinson team that finished 31-17 in 2016-17, just falling short in its second ever appearance at the NJCAA Division II Region VI District E Championship.
Sunday sees Wichita State face off against Crowder College [1 p.m. first pitch] who finished the 2016-17 season 55-10, 12-2 in conference play. The Roughriders finished last season in the 2017 NJCAA Division I District 16 Championship, falling in a three-game series to Indian Hills.
The Shockers annual alumni scrimmage will follow Saturday's matchup featuring more than 15 softball alumni against the current Shocker lineup. Notable recent alumni are four seniors from the 2017 roster including first team all-conference selections
Katie Malone and
Kelli Spring. Other recent alumni include 2016 all-conference selections
Liz Broyles and
Macklin Hitz, along with 2016 conference player of the year, all-conference selection and current director of operations
Cacy Williams.
Admission to fall softball games is $5 at the gate with free admission available for the alumni scrimmage. There will be no advanced purchase available with Wichita State students able to receive free admission with proof of WSU ID.
