WICHITA, Kan.  --  Wichita State will use its final home track and field meet as a tune-up for next weekend's Missouri Valley Conference Championship and a chance to honor its seniors Friday at Cessna Stadium.

Field event competition begins 1:30 p.m., Friday with the women's hammer throw, while Senior Recognition begins at 5:15 p.m. Running events begin at 5:30 p.m., with the 4x100 meter relays, and runs through 8:05 p.m., with the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase.

Selected athletes from St. Gregory's, Southwestern Christian, Southern Nazarene, Central Christian, Langston, Fort Hays State, Oklahoma City and the Shocker Track Club join the Shockers in the tune-up meet.

WSU enters the final regular-season weekend of the year before the Championship season with 34 Top 50 NCAA West marks, including 18 women's marks, and 16 men's marks. Hunter Veith remains the highest-ranked Shocker with 7,610 points in the Decathlon which is No. 7 in the West and No. 9 in the NCAA.

Nikki Larch-Miller is the top-ranked of WSU's women with 5,551 points in the Heptathlon which ranks No. 10 in the NCAA West and No. 15 overall.

Last week, WSU set 22 new personal bests, including 13 women and nine men while WSU had 10 student-athletes set Top 10 all-time marks, including school records by the 4x400 meter relay, and Jamesia Milton in the hammer throw.

Milton's throw of 202-4/61.68 ranks No. 15 in the NCAA West while the 4x400 meter relay's time of 3:39.62 ranks No. 19 in the NCAA West.

Wichita State hosts the 2017 Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship May 12-14, at Cessna Stadium.
