WICHITA, Kan. – Hunter Gibson, a catcher from Oologah, Okla., has signed an Institutional Letter of Intent with Wichita State in the spring signing period, Head Coach Todd Butler announced on April 25.
"We are excited to announce the signing of
Hunter Gibson for the 2017-18 season," Butler said. "He is a two-sport athlete with winning credentials in both football and baseball. We look forward to his development both on the field and in the classroom."
Gibson, a 6-foot-3 catcher from Oologah, Okla., is halfway through his senior season at Oologah-Talala High School and is hitting .517 with six home runs and 30 RBI. As a junior, he hit .449 with five home runs and 27 RBI and had a .628 on base percentage. He also led his team to the 2016 4A baseball playoffs and was named Verdigris Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Year.
In football, he was a starter on three-straight state runner-up teams in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
He is a four-year letterwinner in both baseball and football and is the son of Joe and Tracy Gibson.
Gibson joins the class of 12 signees that signed with Wichita State in the fall signing period.
