Shockers Picked to Win the Valley

WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita State men's golf team has peen picked to win the Missouri Valley Conference Golf Championship after receiving seven of nine first place votes as voted for by the Valley coaches, it was announced today. 

With a total of 79 points in the pre-championship poll, the Shockers enter the tournament as MVC's top ranked team in GolfStat's head-to-head rankings and are looking to earn their 21st MVC Championship and 24th NCAA Tournament appearance with four of last season's five-man team returning for Wichita State's final conference championship as a member of the MVC. 

Yannik Emmert is second in GolfStat's MVC head-to-head player rankings after earning three MVC Player of the Week honors this year behind four top-10 and six top-20 finishes with a stroke average of 71.52. Last season's MVC Player of the Year and All-Conference selection Grant Bennett is in sixth with Jacob Bishop in 10th. Conrad Walcher ranks 16th in the MVC and Gage Ihrig as 20th. 

Since head coach Grier Jones came to Wichita State in 1996, the Shockers have finished first or second in the MVC every single season and just failed to make it nine MVC titles in a row when they were just edged into second in 2016.
