WICHITA, Kan. -- Wichita State's track and field multi-event athletes open competition in the K.T. Woodman Track and Field Classic Tuesday afternoon inside Cessna Stadium.
The multi-events are the start to five days of track and field at the 70th-Annual K.T. Woodman and the Shocker Pre-State High School meet.
On Tuesday, the K.T. Woodman collegiate competition gets underway with the Men's Decathlon at 12:30 p.m., while the Women's Heptathlon starts at 1 p.m. The men will compete the 100 meters, long jump, shot put, high jump, and 400 meters and the women will compete the 100 meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200 meters on Tuesday.
The Multi's wrap up on Wednesday with the 110 meter hurdles, discus, pole vault javelin and 1,500 meters in the Men's Decathlon beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Women's Heptathlon completes the multi-event with the long jump, javelin and the 800 meters beginning at 11:45 a.m.
WSU All-Americans
Breanne Borman and
Nikki Larch-Miller will compete in the Heptathlon with teammates
Gavyn Yetter,
Martiesha Caines,
Carlea Holt-Miles, and
Sydney Wilson. Larch-Miller has the highest point total coming in with 5,812 points. Yetter is second at 5,447 and Borman is third with 5,406 points. Caines has 5,150 and Miles-Holt has 4,841.
In the Decathlon, WSU's
John Nicholas and
Kaden Griffin will compete. Nicholas comes in with the highest collegiate total at 6,827.
A year ago,
Gavyn Yetter won the Heptathlon with 5,329 points in the seven-event competition at the K.T. Woodman while
Hunter Veith won the Decathlon with 7,300 points. Overall, WSU won 12 titles at the 2016 K.T. Woodman.
The Multi-events will features athletes from WSU, Friends, Missouri S&T, Southern Nazarene, Hastings, Southwestern [Kan.].
The Pre-State High School portion of the meet starts Thursday at 5 p.m. with the javelin, and 6:30 p.m. with the Distance Carnival. Friday morning's action in the Pre-State begins at 9 a.m. with selected field events.
The K.T. Woodman continues Friday night at 6 p.m.,with the Distance Carnival and javelin competitions.
