BROOKINGS, S.D. – South Dakota State shot nearly 70 percent from the field and had four players in double-figures to lead the Jackrabbits past Wichita State, 96-64, Wednesday night in Frost Arena.
Wichita State (5-9) saw its three-game winning streak come to an end and is now 0-2 all-time vs. South Dakota State.
Rangie Bessard finished with a game and season-high 25 points on 9-of-16 shooting and going 7-of-9 from the charity stripe. With her 25 points, she has now moved into 17th place on the WSU all-time scoring list. Bessard passes Antionette Wells who finished her career with 1,100 points. It also marked her fifth 20-point output of the season.
Angiee Tompkins joined Bessard in double-figures with 12 points off the bench to go with seven boards.
The Shockers ended the game at 40 percent shooting and a 1-for-10 mark from beyond the arc, while South Dakota State hit 10-of-18 shots from deep and an overall marksmanship of 69 percent.
Macy Miller led SDSU with 22 points on a perfect 9-of-9 shooting and eight assists. Madison Guebert came in next with 19 points and Tagyn Larson and Myah Selland chipped in 15 apiece.
1st Quarter
South Dakota State struck the first blow just barely over two minutes into the game by sprinting out to a 10-0 lead. Madison Guebert and Macy Miller combined to score all 10 points with five points apiece.
The Shockers missed their first 10 shots before finally getting one to fall and would trail by as many as 12 in the opening period. South Dakota State would lead 21-11 after one quarter.
The Jackrabbits shot better than 50 percent in the quarter, while Wichita State converted on only five of its 17 field goals.
2nd Quarter
Wichita State came out and hit its first three shots of the quarter, but a 9-0 South Dakota State run forced a
Keitha Adams timeout with 5:58 left and the Jackrabbits leading 34-18.
The run for SDSU got up to 18-2 covering more than four minutes and allowing the Jackrabbits to establish a 43-20 lead at the 2:30 mark.
At the half, Wichita State found themselves down 49-30 after allowing SDSU to shoot 65 percent from the field, including six three-pointers in 11 tries. On the offensive end for the Shockers, WSU finished at 39 percent.
Bessard led all scorers with 17 first half points on 5-of-9 shooting and 7-of-9 from the free throw line. No other Shocker had more than three points in the first two quarters. Miller and Guebert paced the Jackrabbits with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
3rd Quarter
Bessard continued her scoring outburst with eight points in the first five minutes of the half to help slice the lead to 14. The Jackrabbits would score with ease to cap the third and a 79-53 lead.
Diamond Lockhart helped Bessard in the scoring department with seven in the period.
South Dakota State missed only four shots, while cashing in on 12.
4th Quarter
Wichita State hit 4-of-19 field goal attempts in the final quarter with the game already out of hand.
The Jackrabbits seemed to make everything they shot, going 7-for-10 in the final 10 minutes.

Wichita State will have a 10-day break between games before resuming game action on Dec. 30 for the first American Athletic Conference matchup. The Shockers will host Tulsa for Havoc in the Heartland in Charles Koch Arena at 2 p.m. on ESPN3.
